Post Wedding Holiday - Friday

Friday
It’s the last day already! On Friday morning we packed up and checked out of Hiltonia and headed into Rye to drink coffee, read the papers and have a light lunch. After lunch we headed off to the Peninsula Hot Springs for a special bathing and massage package for two. It was a fantastic experience – relaxing and peaceful and highly recommended by both of us.
Back home Friday evening stopping at Tender trap for a quick meal on the way because we knew there was nothing in the fridge at home. Big thanks to Chris and Helen for managing to squeeze us in on a busy night with no booking.
We had a really lovely holiday and a great start to our married life. Thank you again to all who made it possible. See you soon. With love from Alma and Greg.

Today was our day for serious antique shopping hoping to add to our English china coffee pot (me) and crystal decanter (Greg) collections. When you mention antiques to anybody on the peninsula the immediate response is a suggestion to visit the Tyabb Packing House Antique Centre, so off we went. On the way we passed The Bottom Drawer antique centre in Moorooduc and thought we’d have a quick look. Well, this place was an acre of antique businesses with some really interesting and good quality items. It was here that I found my beautiful hand-painted Royal Doulton “Glamis Thistle” released as part of the celebrations of the coronation of George VI in 1936.
After Moorooduc we headed off to Tyabb and found an even bigger collection of antiques there. At Tyabb Greg found a beautiful 1820s crystal decanter which is now part of his collection. We now have beautiful and permanent reminders of our lovely honeymoon and the generosity of our friends.
After so much “antiquing” we lunched at Tyabb and then went off for a leisurely drive to Flinders and on to Cape Schank. The cool change finally arrived in the afternoon and the combination of hot air and cool moist air created a sea mist. The temperature dropped only a little and the humidity went up even further.
On Thursday evening we went to the Rye Hotel for dinner.

Wednesday
On Wednesday morning we drove up to Mornington to wander around the weekly Mornington Market and the shops. Afterwards we went to the Mornington Antique Centre. This was a bit of a disappointment. “Antiques” was a bit of a stretch and for much of it even “bric-a-brac” would be a kind description.
Lunch was taken at the Dromana Hotel where Greg enjoyed a prawn and fetta pizza describing it as the best pizza he’d ever had. After lunch we headed to Mt Martha and visited another disappointing antique shop and a peasant gallery.
In the evening we had dinner with our friends Stephen and Cheryl at the Mediterraneo restaurant in Mornington. A great evening with good food and lots of chat about this and that.

Tuesday
On Tuesday morning we returned to Sorrento for Greg to buy a pair of boat shoes that he wanted. We went into Twiggy’s Shoes and it turned out that the owner was Greg’s best friend in grades one and two at Glenroy State School. Greg and Rex had met by chance on several occasions over the years and now had met up again in this most unexpected location. We spent the rest of the morning wandering around Red Hill, but being a Tuesday, most of the tourist businesses were not open. We did, however, visit a glass blowing gallery and spent some time watching the craftspeople displaying their amazing skills.
Lunch on Tuesday was one of the highlights of our trip. We went to Montalto Winery restaurant and enjoyed a really beautiful meal with good food, attentive service and really nice wine. Also highly recommended.
After lunch we drove over to the Heronswood estate and garden at Dromana. We didn’t stay long as it was a hot and sultry afternoon, so it was back to Hiltonia for a swim in the pool, a snacky dinner and a DVD.

Monday
On Monday we started with a drive around the WPB side of the Peninsula and dropped in to see our friends Jan and Tom. After that we headed off to Box Stallion Winery for a long and relaxing, but not too boozy, lunch and then a slow drive up the PPB side of the peninsula. Dinner on Monday was at the Continental Hotel in Sorrento where we enjoyed a fantastic paella – highly recommended. We walked of our dinner with a stroll around the Sorrento shops.
